Lufthansa announces profit for second quarter

The airline Lufthansa LG more than doubled its net earnings to euro194 million ($252 million) in the second quarter as ticket sales and its cargo business recovered, the company announced Thursday.

Profit in the April-June period compared with last year’s equivalent of euro89 million. Lufthansa also said profits increased by over 30 percent to euro6.9 billion from euro5.2 billion. Operating revenue tripled to euro 159 million.

The airline said recovering demand, especially in cargo and intercontinental traffic, and its cost reduction program played crucial parts in the second-quarter improvement.
