AAA: More Americans to Fly This Fourth of July Despite Dip in Overall Travel CheapOair Staff June 22, 2011 general Overall, fewer Americans will travel this Independence Day weekend A new report from AAA suggests an overall dip in the number of Americans traveling over the Fourth of July weekend in 2011, despite a 9 point increase in the number of Americans who say they plan to fly to their holiday destination this year. The conflict in data is due to a decreasing number of people who plan to drive over the holiday. Many Americans are still struggling to come to grips with soaring gas prices. On average, price for a gallon of gas remains $1 higher than a year ago. Overall, AAA predicts that 39 million Americans will travel over 50 miles from home during the Independence Day weekend. That number is down slightly from 40 million in 2010. Source: MSNBC
