The most populated island of Spain, Tenerife, is one of the most significant tourist destinations in the country. It is also the largest island of the seven Canary Islands. In the month of February and March carnival is organized in Santa Cruz, the capital City of Tenerife Island. This carnival is said to be the largest in the world. The island has all - mountains, coastline, golden sandy beaches, two World Heritage Sites (the city of San Cristobal de La Laguna and the Teide National Park), and nearly 42 natural protected areas! Here one can enjoy water sports, clubbing, endemic plant life of the island, chill out at beautiful beaches, explore Canarian villages and their culture, ride a cable car to the Spain's highest peak, Teide, and indulge in many other activities.
La LagunaThe city of La Laguna is one of the significant places in the Tenerife Island and was the capital of the island until 1723. La Laguna is home to San Fernando University and the Bishop's Palace and hence known as the cultural and religious capital of the island. Located here are numerous monuments, palaces, and traditional houses with outstanding architecture from the 17th and 18th century. La Laguna’s Cathedral (Catedral de Nuestra Senora de los Remedios), the Saint Dominic Church (Iglesia de Santo Domingo), and Church of Our Lady of Conception (Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion) are some of the most impressive religious structures here.
Teide National ParkThe Parque Nacional de las Canadas del Teide was declared a national park in the year 1954. The park has a vast volcanic crater, nearly 30 miles in circumference and Mount Teide rises out of it. One must go on a drive from the sunny south coast up to the national park. The terrain changes drastically as you move upwards. Opt for a cable car to reach to the highest point of the peak. Make sure to take permission from the national park office to visit close to the mouth of the volcano!
Loro ParqueLoro Parque is an animal adventure park located in the Puerto de la Cruz, northern part of the Tenerife Island. It is amongst the top tourist destination for a day trip in the Canary Islands. Antarctic conditions have been recreated here for Planet Penguin, and it houses dozens of these penguins, which can be seen diving in the freezing water. Visitors to the park can enjoy various performances by dolphins, sea lions, and orca whales.
