Explore Lima
Lima is the capital and the largest city of Peru. It is also the country’s most populous metropolitan area and the third-largest city proper in the Americas. It is scenically located in the valley of three rivers and offers delightful views of the Pacific Ocean. Lima has served the Spanish Colonial rule for 300 years since 16th century and is home to a wide range of architecturally-sound churches and monasteries. Lima also delights its visitors with its eclectic cuisine because it comprises a large number of ingredients sourced from coast, mountain and Amazon regions of the country. You should take out time to check out its typical seafood that comes in (very) spicy and non-spicy variants.
Things to do in Lima
Convento de San Francisco (or the Saint Francis Monastery)
The Saint Francis Monastery is a famous late 17th century church in Lima. It is world-class example of Spanish Baroque architecture and is hallmarked by granite carved portals, that later became a template for subsequently made churches. This church also flaunts a selective use of Moorish and Spanish designs in its interiors. The convent's library has about 25000 antique texts, none more famous than a Holy Bible printed in 1571.
Archbishop's Palace of Lima
The Archbishop's Palace of Lima is the residence of the Archbishop of Lima and the administrative headquarters of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lima. A classic example of early 20th century neo-colonial architecture, it seamlessly incorporates a baroque façade, designer cedar balconies and a granite statue of Saint Turibius of Mongrovejo (the patron protector of the Archdiocese).
Torre Tagle Palace
The Torre Tagle Palace is a Spanish Baroque palace in downtown Lima and it hosts the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Commissioned during the first third of 18th century, the palace is now a beautiful sum of Sevillian baroque running beside a strong Mudejar accent. This palace was built from materials brought in from Spain, Panama and Central America.
Best Time to Fly to Lima
The best time to fly to Lima is the summer season from December to April. One can use this time of the year to enjoy events and festivals like Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Foundation of Lima and Carnaval.
