Doual'art
Doual'art is a nonprofit cultural organization and art centre founded in Douala in 1991. It aims at producing and exhibiting artworks in 12 different neighborhoods of the city to promote contemporary art and urban transformations. It was established in the former cinema of the Palace of Douala Kings and is now located in a new facility called the Espace doual'art.
The Maritime Museum of Douala
Located at Rue de l’Hopital Bonanjo, the Maritime Museum of Douala is focused to collect and preserve the evolution of Cameroonian maritime landscape. It is home to an invaluable collection of artifacts, photographs, sculptures, maps, paintings, videos, documents, archival materials and multimedia animations. Its exhibits bear several themes like ‘man in his natural environment’ and ‘the evolution of various ships in the world’ and one can get guided tours into the museum.
Palace of the Kings Bell
Constructed in 1905, the Palace of the Kings Bell in Douala is a classic mansion built by the Germans for King Auguste Manga Ndumbe. This classic masterpiece of eclectic architecture is still owned by the royal family and assumes the central position among most all historical monuments in the city. Palace of the Kings Bell is also called by its French name, La Pagode that was given by a French author named Louis-Ferdinand Celine who lived here 100 years ago.
