Delhi (officially known as the National Capital Territory of Delhi) is a city and a union territory of India. Delhi has served as a capital of various kingdoms and empires over its existence till date, and its long list of architectural monuments are a clear reflection of the same. Some of the most famous architectural monuments here include India Gate, Red Fort, Qutub Minar, and Jama Masjid. The city is the largest commercial centre in northern India, it also hosts Asia's largest auto show (the Auto Expo) and the world’s second largest exhibition of books (New Delhi World Book Fair). Traversing through the city is also a breeze with its well-rounded transit system, Delhi Metro - ranks among the top 10 largest metro systems in the world and Delhi Transport Corporation (or DTC) - operates the world's largest fleet of CNG-powered buses.

Things to do in Delhi

Qutub Minar

Qutub Minar was built during 1193 and 1368, and used to rank as the world’s tallest skyscraper then. It was constructed along with Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque around 1198 and this mosque complex is one of the earliest surviving Islamic structures in the Indian subcontinent. The Qutub Minar is 72.5 meter high minaret tapering into 5 storeys. It is best described as a subject of delightful artisanship and ornate Persian architectural styles.

Red Fort

The Red Fort is a historical fort named for its massive enclosing walls of red sandstone and situated in Delhi. Built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1659, it served as the residence of the Mughal emperors for nearly 200 years before being serially subdued by Marathas, Sikhs and British. The Indian Prime Minister gives a speech on the country’s Independence Day (15 August) and then hoists the Indian Tricolor flag here ever since 1947. The Red Fort also houses several museums that contain artifacts related to the former emperors.

Jama Masjid

Jama Masjid or Masjid-i Jahan-Numa (literally translating to the World-Reflecting Mosque) is one of the largest mosques in India. This mid-17th century mosque is one of the last monuments built under Mughal emperor Shah Jahan’s aegis and had then cost 1 million rupees. It is bounded by three great gates, four towers and two 40 meter high minarets, and it can accommodate over 25000 people at a time.

Best Time to fly to Delhi

The best times to fly to Delhi are the late autumn, winter, and early spring seasons that together run from October to March. The weather is at its supreme best as the temperature ranges between 20 and 33 degree Celsius with occasional rains. This translates into lots of time for sightseeing and enjoying cultural festivals like Baisakhi and Holi. Budget travelers can visit Delhi during the summer and early monsoon season from May to August. It is hot and humid at 33 to 40 deg C with a good amount of rainfall, a combination that attracts fewer tourists and thus affordable flight and accommodation rates.

CheapOair Customer Reviews

Greece Getaway

My first experience with CheapOair was very good! The reservations made to fly to Greece had smooth connections at each airport. I was hoping for the ability to watch the reservation price and adjust it as the trip got closer, but once I locked in my reservation, the price couldn’t be changed. Text messages from them were clear and kept me informed on the flight plan! I would rate this experience as very good. - Bette  Dec 01, 2024
