St. Louis Cathedral

1850 House

The 1850 House, a museum, represents the daily-life, taste, and prosperity of people during the mid-19th century. The entire house exhibits the decor & art of that time. Displayed within are a set of John Slidell’s china, Old Paris porcelain, New Orleans silver, and dozens of other notable paintings & furnishings.

E.D. White Historic Site

E.D. White Historic Site is a National Historic Landmark situated on the banks of Bayou Lafourche River. It was the residence of the 2 foremost political figure of Louisiana- Edward Douglas White (governor from 1835-39) and his son, Edward Douglass White (chief justice from 1910-21). The E.D. White House was constructed in the year 1825 with hand-hewn cypress. The main floor of the house displays Greek Revival architecture. The exhibits within this historic house narrate the story of the area, the Chitimacha Indians, Acadian settlers, slavery, sugar cane plantations, and the White family.
