Desert Botanical Garden

Desert Botanical Garden is in Papago Park, Phoenix. It has a cactus garden and vegetation in deserts (from different parts of the world). Spread over nearly 140 acres, approximately 55 acres is used for cultivation and has thousands of plants. The Botanical garden is taken care by volunteers and staff. During spring, the plants come to life and bloom in various colors.

Phoenix Zoo

Located in Papago Park, Phoenix Zoo is famous for Sumatran tigers and orangutans. There are more than 1,400 animals, including numerous endangered species, who call this zoo home. There are four different trails that visitors can follow - the Africa Trail, Tropics Trails, Arizona Trail, and Children's Trail. This zoo is favorite with children and offers all kinds of children's programs, events, and play areas. Some of the highlights of the zoo include - the petting zoo, camel rides, Stingray Bay, and daily animal shows.

South Mountain Park

South Mountain Park in Phoenix is the largest city park in the United States, covering over 16,000 acres of desert landscape. The miles of trails which run through the park are ideal for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. This is a nice place to visit at night, with a wonderful view over Phoenix and the city lights. The highest point in the park is Mount Suppoa at 2,690 ft but the highest lookout which can be reached by trail or road is Dobbins Lookout at 2,330 feet.

Best Time to Fly to Phoenix

The best time to visit Phoenix is between the months of November and April. During these months, the sky is clear and blue. Since it is a desert city, you will not see flowers bloom in the spring season nor will leaves change their color in the fall. While planning a trip here, do bear in mind that a change in weather is a bit unpredictable in deserts.
