Lagos is a city in, Nigeria. It is amongst the fastest growing cities in the world. The city is an important financial centre in Africa with the highest GDP and is home to one of the busiest and largest ports on the African Continent. While in the city do not miss the opportunity to visit the official residence of the Oba of Lagos (King of Lagos). The Old Secretariat, located close to Lagos Island Hospital, is another building which should not be missed. It was constructed in 1906 to house colonial offices. Third Mainland Bridge
The Third Mainland Bridge is the longest bridge not only in Lagos but also in Africa. The bridge is approximately 11.8 kilometers long and connects the Lagos Island to the mainland. It was constructed by Julius Berger Nigeria and was inaugurated by the President Ibrahim Babangida in the year 1990.
National Museum
Established in the year 1957, the National Museum houses an impressive collection of artifacts from the fields of traditional art, archaeology, and ethnography. Main attractions here include - galleries dedicated to the brasses from Benin City (Nigeria) and Nok Terracottas. National Museum also houses bullet-riddled car in which Late General Murtala Mohammed (country’s former Head of State) was assassinated.
Lekki Conservation Centre
The Lekki Conservation Centre, spread on nearly 78 hectares, was set up in the year 1990 by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF). Since its inception, the centre has turned out to be one of the most prominent and diverse urban Nature Parks in Africa. The centre features a family park, tree house, 6 and 8 seater family huts, floor games (Ludo, Snake and Ladder and more), beach Vvolley-ball courts, barbecue joints and more.
Best Time to Fly to Lagos
The best time to visit Lagos is during winter months (December-February). However, during winter season the rainfall is accompanied by winds (Harmattan winds) from the Sahara Desert. These winds are at their strongest from December to the beginning of February.
