Things to do in Mumbai
The Gateway of India
The Gateway of India is an arch monument built during the 20th century in Mumbai. It was erected to commemorate the landing of King George V and Queen Mary to the city in 1911. This 26 meter high iconic superstructure is a classical example of Indo-Saracenic architecture and assimilates the elements of the Roman triumphal arch and 500-year old Gujarati architecture. Also of notice here is Muslim-style arch with subtle Hindu style decorations on it.
Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Mandir
Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Mandir is a Hindu temple dedicated to Hind god - Lord Shri Ganesh in Mumbai. It was built in 1801 and is one of the richest temples in Mumbai. This holy temple has a grand statue of Lord Ganesha and a small mandap (shrine) for Siddhi Vinayak (or ‘Ganesha who grants your wish).’ The temple’s wooden doors bear carvings of the Ashtavinayak (or the eight manifestations of Ganesha). The temple is flanked by another temple dedicated to Hindu god - Hanuman.
Haji Ali Dargah
The Haji Ali Dargah is a mosque and dargah (tomb) located in Mumbai. Constructed in 1431, it features the tomb of Sayed Peer Haji Ali Shah Bukhari and is a classic triumph of Indo-Islamic architecture. The Dargah bears witness to pious memory of a wealthy Muslim merchant, Sayyed Peer Haji Ali Shah Bukhari, who had renounced all his worldly possessions and had sailed for a pilgrimage to Mecca.
