silver. When Justo Rufino Barrios nationalized this church, it was transformed into the headquarters of the National Police. However, after its renovation in the year 1999, the church has been transformed into the museum with elaborate paintings, religious statues, sculptures, and more.

Also known as the Cathedral of Guatemala City and a landmark of Guatemalan religiosity, the Metropolitan Cathedral lies in the heart of the city. The interior design majorly depicts colonial art from the ancient capital of Santiago de los Caballeros (Antigua). There are 14 paintings along the central nave from 17th century by Mexican artist, Pedro Ramirez. It also has statues of saints including Saint Fernando King of Spain and San Louis King of France, which were preserved from the church in Antigua.
