Explore Dhaka
Dhaka is the capital, largest city and the economic, cultural and political heartthrob of Bangladesh. It has twice served as the capital of the Bengal province during the Mughal Empire in 17th century and used to account for the lion’s share of the regional economy. The city is home to many period gardens, tombs, mosques, palaces and forts and was then also called Venice of the East. Some of the attractions here include Lalbagh Fort, Ahsan Manzil and Bangladeshi National Museum. Another aspect of the city is the world’s the largest number of cycle rickshaws, thus earning it the nickname of the Rickshaw Capital of the World.
Things to do in Dhaka
Lalbagh Fort
Lalbagh Fort (also known as Fort Aurangabad) is an incomplete fort complex along the Buriganga River in Dhaka. It construction was started by Mughal Subahdar Muhammad Azam Shah (the son of Emperor Aurangzeb) in 17th century. This fort has seen many crucial battles, none more famous than a battle each during the Revolt of 1857 and the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. There are some historically significant monuments also located here like the Tomb of Pari Bibi, Lalbagh Mosque, the Audience Hall and the Hammam of Nawab Shaista Khan.
Ahsan Manzil (or Ahsan Monjil)
Ahsan Manzil was the official residence and seat of the Nawab of Dhaka. Famous for ornate pink-colored stonework and Indo-Saracenic Revival architecture, this late 19th century grand mansion is situated along the Buriganga River in Dhaka. It doubles up as a national museum with a remarkable range of artifacts related to regional history and is flanked by a beautiful garden.
Bangladesh National Museum
The Bangladesh National Museum was inaugurated as the Dhaka Museum on 7 August 1913 and was elevated to the status of the country’s national museum 70 years later. It is home to a marvelous collection of chronologically arranged artifacts and displays related to many different disciplines. Visitors are wowed by its long list of ethnographic decorative artworks and elements of history, classical art, natural history and world civilization.
Best Time to fly to Chennai
The best time to fly Dhaka is during the winter and spring seasons from October to March. It is comparatively cooler as the temperature maxes out between 25 and 31 deg C, with most chills being concentrated in January and February. Those interested in budget travel options can visit the city during the monsoon season from June to September. Though it seems only marginally hotter at around 32 deg C, the heavy rains that lash the city during the period make it a costly affair. The only plus during this season is a combination of lower airfares, accommodation rates and the tea-picking sights elsewhere in Bangladesh.

My trip was planned perfectly, from flight to accommodations. I'll be visiting again in the Spring and using CheapOair to plan again. Very satisfied! - Steven Dec 12, 2024
My first experience with CheapOair was very good! The reservations made to fly to Greece had smooth connections at each airport. I was hoping for the ability to watch the reservation price and adjust it as the trip got closer, but once I locked in my reservation, the price couldn’t be changed. Text messages from them were clear and kept me informed on the flight plan! I would rate this experience as very good. - Bette Dec 01, 2024
