Explore Bogota

Bogota is the capital and the largest city of Colombia. It is the commercial and financial core of the country. Situated here are maximum number of universities of Colombia. The city is also the cultural capital of the country with numerous theaters, libraries, and museums. Some of these include the Museo del Oro (Museum), Silva House of Poetry, Jorge Eliecer Gaitan Municipal Theater, National Museum of Colombia, Faenza Theater, Virgilio Barco Library, and more. Make it a point to visit the Gold Museum while in Bogota. Here one can see the incredible collection of gold pieces and various other artifacts. History enthusiasts should add the La Candelaria, the historic area within the city, to their itinerary. If visiting here with family and kids add Children's Museum to your list.

Things to Do in Bogota

La Candelaria

La Candelaria is the historic neighborhood in the city. Located few minutes-walks from Bolivar Plaza and home to la Casa de la Moneda, the Botero Museum, and the newly opened Gabriel Garcia Marquez Cultural Center, among other important museums and landmarks, la Candelaria lends you, possibly, hours of walking down narrow, colonial streets lined with colonial style houses and buildings. Once home to Spanish colonizers and their criollo descendants, La Candelaria has, in recent times, become known as the bohemian sector of Bogota with artist shops, off-the- beaten-path cafes and artisan shops, museums and libraries.

El Cerro Monserrate (Monserrate Peak)

The mountaintop el Cerro Monserrate is an iconic symbol of the city of Bogota and offers, by far, the best view of the city’s landscape, limits, and distribution. To get to Monserrate, you can take a cable car that will quickly transport you to the mountaintop. Once at the top, there are many ways to enjoy Monserrate; you can visit the church, have a hot chocolate and a delicious Tamal, buy some handicraftsat the small market, or simply take in the amazing view of Bogotá from many of the charming garden area.

Gold Museum (Museo de Oro)

The Gold Museum in Bogotá is a must see for any traveler passing through. The Gold Museum boasts an incredible collection of pre-Hispanic gold pieces as well as other artifacts from various time periods. The gold collection, however, is what is most impressive in this museum, hence the name. According to the museum, it all started with one single piece-the poporo quimbaya-and from that one piece, the

museum has developed into the recently restored masterpiece that it is today. Even if you are not a fan of pre-Hispanic collections, consider making an exception. You won’t regret a visit to this iconic museum and are sure to be amazed by the intricate and exquisite gold collection on display.

Best Time to Fly to Bogota

The months of December, January, February and March offer a dry season with a pleasant climate bringing in fresh and cool breeze, enhancing the beauty of the city. The months from April to July should be avoided as they are the wet months, which often leads to road blocks and makes the journey uncomfortable.

CheapOair Customer Reviews

Eugene OR

My trip was planned perfectly, from flight to accommodations. I'll be visiting again in the Spring and using CheapOair to plan again. Very satisfied! - Steven  Dec 12, 2024

Greece Getaway

My first experience with CheapOair was very good! The reservations made to fly to Greece had smooth connections at each airport. I was hoping for the ability to watch the reservation price and adjust it as the trip got closer, but once I locked in my reservation, the price couldn’t be changed. Text messages from them were clear and kept me informed on the flight plan! I would rate this experience as very good. - Bette  Dec 01, 2024
