Explore Hyderabad

Things to do in Hyderabad
Mecca Masjid or Makkah Masjid
Mecca Masjid is one of the oldest and largest mosques in Hyderabad. It is flanked at some distance by two notable historic landmarks - the Chowmahalla Palace and the Charminar. Common folklore assumes that the central arch of this mosque was built using soil and bricks brought from the Mecca, the birthplace of Prophet Mohammad and thus it came to be known as Mecca Masjid. The mosque also then formed the centerpiece around which the city was later developed by Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah. The Mecca Masjid is also thought to house a hair of the Prophet Muhammad.
The Charminar
Hyderabad’s most famous icon, the Charminar (literally ‘Four Minarets’) is a late 16th century monument with a mosque and a temple on the top and bottom of one of its minarets. Nicknamed Arc de Triomphe of the East, this stunning piece of Indo-Islamic and Persian architectural styles is flanked by four ornate minarets and four grand arches. The Charminar is where Hyderabad’s founder, emperor Quli Qutb Shah had prayed to the Almighty for his city to be relieved of cholera epidemic in 1592. This grand structure is also surrounded by jewelry and pearl markets called the Laad Baazar and the Pather Gatti respectively.
Chowmahalla Palace
Chowmahalla Palace (literally Four Palaces) was the official residence of the Nizams of Hyderabad. This royal palace is a delightful work of Mughal, Persian, and Neo-Classical architectural styles. Some highlights here include its Bara Imam that flaunts many domes, arches and ornate stucco artworks, the Clock Tower (whose clock has been running for over 250 years now) and the Roshan Bangla (that houses Nizam’s collection of vintage cars like the Rolls Royce).

My trip was planned perfectly, from flight to accommodations. I'll be visiting again in the Spring and using CheapOair to plan again. Very satisfied! - Steven Dec 12, 2024
My first experience with CheapOair was very good! The reservations made to fly to Greece had smooth connections at each airport. I was hoping for the ability to watch the reservation price and adjust it as the trip got closer, but once I locked in my reservation, the price couldn’t be changed. Text messages from them were clear and kept me informed on the flight plan! I would rate this experience as very good. - Bette Dec 01, 2024
