Humayun's Tomb
The final resting place of the Mughal Emperor Humayun, Humayun's Tomb is located in the Nizamuddin East area of Delhi. Humayun's Tomb is the first garden tomb in the Indian subcontinent. This majestic piece of structural design was commissioned for construction in 1569-70, by Bega Begum, the chief consort empress of Humayun. The design of this tomb pertains to typical Mughal architecture with Persian influences. Due to its spectacular design and notable past, Humayun's Tomb is featured in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Red Fort
Built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1939, Red Fort is a historical fortification in the center of the city. This fort was main residence of the rulers of Mughal dynasty. It is an imposing piece of architecture and derives its name from its red sandstone walls. Red Fort was the political and ceremonial center of the Mughal state and also the setting for the events that impacted the region. Today, the fort is home to several museums boasting an array of historical artifacts. On the Independence Day every year, the Prime Minister of India unfurls the national flag of the Red Fort.
Qutab Minar
Qutab Minar is the tallest brick minaret around the globe. It is a tall tower of victory constructed by Qutab-ud-din Aibak (Slave Dynasty) after trouncing over Delhi's last Hindu kingdom. There are five storeys in Qutab Minar, in which three storeys are made of red sandstone and the fourth and fifth storeys are of sandstone and marble. There is also a 7-metre high iron pillar that is located in the courtyard of Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, located at the foot of the minaret. As per the beliefs, Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque was constructed of the material obtained from the demolition of '27 Hindu Temples'.
Best Time to Fly to Delhi
Delhi sees three seasons - summer, monsoon, and winter. Summers in the city start from the month of April and continues up to the month of July. In summers, the weather is hot and humid, and the temperatures lie in the range of 25 degrees to 45 degree Centigrade. Monsoon lasts from July to mid-September and in this season, Delhi experiences rainfall offering relief from hot and humid weather. Temperature in rainy season lies in the range of 30 degrees to 35 degree Centigrade. Winter in the city brings extreme cold and low temperature. Winter starts from December and continues till January. The best time to visit Delhi is with either during the months of February and March or October and November. Other than these months, the city is either too hot or too cold.
