Explore Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad (also called Ahmadabad and Amdavad) is the sixth largest city in India and the nation’s first UNESCO World Heritage City. This riverside city along Sabarmati River was the epicenter of Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violent movement for India's independence, and thus the numero uno attraction of the city is now the Sabarmati Aashram from where it had all started. Ahmedabad is a colorful bouquet of cultural, traditional, and modern feel. Visitors can get a delightful glimpse of the same in its Navaratri festival which is also considered to be the world’s longest dance festival. Some architectural attractions in the city include Adalaj Stepwell, Jama Mosque and Akshardham Temple.
Things to do in Ahmedabad
Sabarmati Ashram
The Sabarmati Ashram was founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1915 and used to serve as his residence. Scenically situated on the bank of the Sabarmati River, this calm abode skyrocketed to nationwide fame with the launch of Gandhi’s historical Dandi March in 1930 to protest against the Salt Tax imposed by the British. The iconic ashram is dotted with a handicrafts centre, a handmade paper factory and a spinning wheel factory on its inside.
Jama Masjid
Jama Masjid (also known as Jami or Jumma Mosque) was built by Ahmed Shah I in 1424 AD. It is a remarkable work of early 15th century Indo-Islamic architecture and is made of yellow sandstone. This grand mosque stands in the centre of a large courtyard and is accessible via three entrances. Jama Masjid also contains many elements of multi-religions origin on its walls and adjacent areas but not everyone usually notices it. The mosque is flanked by the tombs of Ahmed Shah I, his son and his grandson and the graves of his queens.
Adalaj Stepwell
Adalaj Stepwell is located in the village of Adalaj, some distance away from Ahmedabad. It was built by Rana Veer Singh of the Vaghela dynasty in 1498 as a classic work of Indian architecture. This five stories deep stepwell is a subject of ornate designing and carvings, and is associated with a heart-wrenching tale of Queen Roopba who gave up her life after the king Rana Veer Singh was killed in a battle. One can also notice the intricate carvings in Sanskrit language at certain parts of the stepwell that depict the exact date and time when it was built.
Best Time to fly to Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad has a hot and semi-arid climate, and thus it experiences very hot and dry summers and mild chilly winters. It would thus be best to visit Ahmedabad during the winter season from November to February when the temperature is between 28 and 32 deg C and the rainfall is sparse. Visitors can use these pleasant conditions for sightseeing and enjoying cultural festivals.

I have used CheapOair twice and love this site!!! Excellent prices and great airlines . I would highly recommend CheapOair to book your trips through. - Susan Dec 18, 2024
My wife, Jessica, and our 19-year-old daughter traveled to Prague from Dec 4–11 and had an incredible experience! They stayed at the Dominican Hotel, a charming and conveniently located spot in the heart of Prague. We booked the trip through CheapOair, bundling the hotel and airfare, and found it to be a great value overall. The booking process was seamless, and all confirmation emails were timely and easy to follow. I was especially impressed with the convenience of using CheapOair—it made setting up the trip straightforward without needing a separate travel agent. Their flights were with TAP Air Portugal, and everything went smoothly. Flights were on time, and the airline provided excellent service. We decided to upgrade to Comfort Seating, which was well worth the extra cost for the added comfort, especially for a longer trip. However, I wish we didn’t have to pay extra to select seats so my wife and daughter could sit together—it would be great if that were included in the base price. CheapOair also provided options for early check-in and travel add-ons through their emails, making planning even easier. For excursions, we used Viator.com to arrange activities directly, which worked perfectly. The trip was well-organized, hassle-free, and a fantastic experience overall. We’ll definitely book through CheapOair again and recommend it to anyone looking for a simple and cost-effective way to plan their travel. Thank you for helping make this trip memorable! - Raleigh Dec 13, 2024
