The services of Cyprus Airways, the national carrier of Cyprus, have been terminated with effect from 9 January 2015. The Cyprus Airways ticket-holders have been promised alternative arrangements by the government. Before the airways ceased its operations, it was operating regular scheduled flights from Larnaca to several European and Middle East destinations.
The Cyprus Airways was set up on 24 September 1947 and had its operating base at Larnaca International Airport. It is being reported that a ruling by the European Commission against the company has led to its immediate closure. The company was facing severe financial troubles in the recent years.
